About the Summit
A GBCN FLAGSHIP EVENT
The Summit will be the first in a series of annual stakeholder forums organized by GBCN in collaboration with its partners to explore topical issues related to sustainability in the Nigerian built environment and urban climate resilience, with the objective of developing appropriate policy responses thereto.
In this spirit, the maiden Summit will examine the World GBC’s Africa Manifesto, which was officially launched in Cape Town, South Africa on 4th November 2022.
The keynote address at the Summit will be delivered by His Excellency, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the executive Governor of Kaduna State. The Summit will feature a series of plenary sessions during which selected subject experts will deliver presentations on the Africa Manifesto’s priority areas within the context of sustainability in the Nigerian built environment. During the Summit’s two days, attendees will engage in breakaway sessions to discuss how to domesticate the Manifesto, examining how to situate its policy priorities within the Nigerian context.
By bringing together an array of local and international green building stakeholders and experts, the Summit will provide a forum to x-ray Nigeria’s green building and urban sustainability challenges, with a view to finding context-based solutions to these.
The Summit will also feature expositions on green buildings and urban sustainability, product exhibitions and corporate informercials, providing opportunities for pioneering organizations to showcase sustainability leadership and innovation.
The theme of the 2023 edition of the Future Cities Summit is “Towards a Net Zero and Climate-Resilient Nigeria". The Summit will provide a forum to discuss the current state of the Nigerian built environment and explore potential strategies and policies to increase the country’s stock of green buildings as well as make our cities more sustainable.
The Summit will do this through the lens of the World GBC’s Africa Manifesto for Sustainable Cities and the Built Environment, a roadmap of policy priorities and programs intended to guide Africa’s transition to greater urban sustainability. The Summit will also serve as a forum to acknowledge progress and showcase achievements in the areas of green building and urban sustainability in Nigeria.
The event will be attended by 200 local and international experts and stakeholders from government, business, academia, civil society and built environment professions. This will include representatives from key public sector organizations, such as the Federal Ministry Works, and major private sector companies.
